Go Ahead. Adieu.

A lot of times, we do everything in our power to avoid it. But we soon realize change is inevitable. I have so much to say, so much to write.

Yet, I haven’t found the proper space and/or forum to keep my ever changing
needs satisfied.

I won’t get rid of you, wordpress, because well, I never underestimate the entertainment value of reading something I wrote a year or so ago.

But the internet is a beautiful thing, and it would be a shame not to maximize its potential. So I’m moving forward. Let’s see where I’m headed.

Exciting.

generations

Taken at California Adventures this past Fourth of July weekend. I thought this was pretty cool. If this doesn’t speak volumes about differing generations, I don’t know what does.

09 champs

Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I can be a very superstitious person. It’s the reason I haven’t written many Lakers related posts this postseason. But enough of that. The CHAMPS are here.

It’s been seven long years since the last title. I forgot what it feels like to have the team you follow every single game for nine months a year win a championship. It does feel new again, that’s for sure.

And in case you forgot, let’s take a moment to look back at what I wrote one year ago after that embarassing loss to the Celtics:

To Whom It May Concern:

To all of you who claim to be Lakers fans. To all of you throwing out those flags. To all of you jumping ship — please, don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Where were you the past three years? Where were you when we missed the playoffs for only the 5th time in 60 years? Where were you when Kobe was on the brink of being traded? I understand fair-weather fans come with the territory. But to be completely honest, I don’t like you.

You don’t deserve to celebrate the success if you weren’t there to go through the failures. So jump off the bandwagon now, but when we come back next year — and we will, trust me — there won’t be any more room for you.

P.S. To those brand-new Celtics fans that seem to be popping up left and right — stop cheering and have a seat. You didn’t even know they existed a month ago. Your act is tired. Go Patriots.

Thanks for your time,
J Diaz

Thanks goes out to the Lakers for making me look like a genius. They’re finally back on top. And you know what? The last seven years were worth it.

1. Mattel Headquarters Tower – El Segundo, CA
A bit overwhelming at first, but I was told that it should be.

2. Giant logo on lawn
Nice way of marking your territory.

hot wheels

3. Real-life Hot Wheels
Yes, it’s a working vehicle. Imagine seeing that on the 405.

lakers practice facility

4. Toyota Center aka Lakers Practice Facility
Literally one block away from the office, hoping to catch a glimpse of the team.

This short piece aired on ESPN a couple days ago, and I thought it was hilarious. Lamar Odom has always been one of my favorite players, but I had never heard about this part of his game. How a professional athlete has gone through a routine like this for 10 years and still manages to perform at a high level is beyond me.

The part about waking up in the middle of the night gets me every time.
