There’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad news is we’re nearing the end of Kelly Kapoor, Mindy Kaling‘s absolutely hilarious character on The Office. The good news is she’s getting her own show.

NBC has Tina Fey-style plans for “The Office’s” Mindy Kaling, signing the multihyphenate to an overall deal with the Peacock and Universal Media Studios.

Under terms of the two-year, seven-figure deal, Kaling will continue to write for and appear on “The Office” next season while simultaneously developing a comedy in which she would also star.

“This is my first step in a Transformers-style way to take over the whole world,” Kaling quipped. “I’ve only ever worked for NBC, and I’ve felt an enormous amount of support from the executives there.”

I can’t help but feel this is the beginning of the end of The Office. God knows I love the show, but can anyone really see Michael Scott and Co. continuing on for five more seasons?

They’ve already lasted way longer than the UK version and everyone has to move on at some point. I really hope I’m wrong, but I’d love to see the show leave at the top of its game.
