“Fucking suburbanized shit!”

Between this movie and The Village, I’m almost completely convinced Adrien Brody is kind of slow, you know, mentally. But the movie itself wasn’t. In Dummy, Brody plays a socially inept adult who finally finds a voice through his new hobby — ventriloquism. That’s not the worse part. In attempting to attract the opposite sex, he decides it’s a good idea to bring his dummy on some dates. Awesome.

Playing his best friend is Milla Jovovich in an intriguing role. She reminded me of an edgier Natalie Portman in Garden State. Great character to watch. The film wasn’t the best ever written, but there are some hilarious performances in this that covered up its flaws. It’s genuinely awkward and funny, and it reminds us that although there is some sense of youth in us all, sooner or later we’re going to have to grow up.
